ART CLASSES 2013 TERM TWO
Palmerston North, NZ
"If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint.' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced." Vincent Van Gogh
YOUR TEACHER
I've taught at tertiary level, in community education and run private classes. My textile work has won many awards and been exhibited in New Zealand, Australia, USA, UK and Europe.
DRAWING 1
For total beginners and those wishing to refresh their skills. Learn how to draw from observation. You will do interesting exercises to help you see in a way that enables you to draw more accurately. This class is a very good foundation to learning water- colour. |
WATERCOLOUR 1
It's best if you can already draw for this class. Learn how to handle a brush, understand basic colour theory, mix the colours you want, wet into wet, dry brush techniques, and more. Experience the wonderful surprises that watercolour offers. |
FLYING COLOURS 1
This is an intensive colour course; no drawing and not much picture making. It will enlarge your colour vocabulary and will make you very aware of the full potential of colour. You will learn how to mix the colours you want, how colours behave together, how tone affects colours, how to create harmony/discord. And more. |
Occasionally realism can be a hard taskmaster and can restrict the joy in painting and drawing. If you enjoy playing around with paint and mixed media to see what emerges then this is the course for you. It is a structured course with new material introduced incrementally. It can also lead to a more imaginative and free approach to realism |
A session devoted to getting on with your own work in the company of others. For people who know what they want to do and have some idea of how to go about it. Help will be on hand if required. |
A class for people who want to start Watercolour but don't have any drawing skills, you get to do some drawing as well.

SEE WORK DONE IN PREVIOUS CLASSES
The people who did the work here come from varied backgrounds; some had never held a piece of charcoal or a paintbrush before, some arrived with other art, craft and design skills, others turned up to practice their English and learn a new skill, and a few were already experienced artists.
I always enjoy being part of this mix. Teaching is a very important part of my artistic practice, it is rewarding to see people accomplish things they never believed possible.
Would all the anonymous artists please own up via the contact page, thank you.
